Anveo Mobile App Barcode Scanner

The Anveo Mobile App includes a built-in barcode scanner that uses the device’s camera to scan a barcode or QR code. The barcode scanner can be integrated into any process within the Anveo Mobile App and supports a wide range of different barcodes.

Limitations

The barcode scanner provided is based on the open source implementation of “ZXing .NET mobile” for licensing reasons. Our experience has shown that this achieves good results for many scenarios and barcode types. Nevertheless, we have observed some application scenarios and barcodes in which the barcodes were not scanned correctly or only partially. Also, the speed via a camera scanner is too slow for some application scenarios.

For our part, we would very much like to integrate a higher-quality scanner solution into the product and have thus contacted several commercial providers. Unfortunately, we were unable to find an agreement with any provider that is compatible with our licensing models, so that we must continue to rely on this basic solution that is suitable for most users.

Test before project start

Therefore, we recommend testing the desired barcodes before starting the project. For this purpose, the Anveo Mobile App can be downloaded free of charge. If you have any questions about a test, please contact our Anveo Support.

Restricting the scannable barcodes

In some scenarios it also helps to limit the allowed barcode types e.g. only CODE_39 or EAN_8.

Supported barcodes are:

AZTEC, CODABAR, CODE_39, CODE_93, CODE_128, DATA_MATRIX, EAN_8, EAN_13, ITF, MAXICODE, PDF_417, QR_CODE, RSS_14, RSS_EXPANDED, UPC_A, UPC_E, UPC_EAN_EXTENSION, MSI, PLESSEY, IMB, All_1D, ASSUMEGS1, PUREBARCODE, USECODE39EXTENDEDMODE

Example

PAGE(‘BARCODE’, SalesLine, ‘No.’, ‘CODE_39,EAN_8’);

Hardware scanner

For significantly better and, above all, faster results, we recommend hybrid devices that connect an external hardware laser scanner via Bluetooth keyboard input. The scanning speed and quality are significantly better in any case. However, due to the large selection of devices and the fast-moving nature of the market, we are unfortunately unable to make any hardware recommendations.
