Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Universal Code Initiative

This article refers to Microsoft’s Universal Code Initiative for On-Premises installations, the first version of which was released at the end of 2021. Microsoft will require that Microsoft Dynamics ISV solutions be developed in “extensions” and be “cloud optimized”. Please consult the latest Microsoft documentation for more details.

We are proud to announce that the Anveo products Anveo Mobile App and Anveo EDI Connect will be in compliance with Microsoft’s Universal Code Initiative shortly. Please find more product specific details below.

Anveo Mobile App

The Anveo Mobile App offers two installation options.

Anveo Mobile App for BC OnPrem with SQL Integration

The first option provides full backward compatibility for C/AL-based installations for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 to Dynamics 365 Business Central 14 as well as for AL-based installations using Extensions for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 13 to 19. This option uses direct SQL integration and does not comply the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Universal Code Initiative.

This is C3 in the following slide:

Anveo Mobile App for BC Online and OnPrem with Universal Code

The second option provides full BC Online (A1, A2) and BC OnPrem (B1, B2, B3) support for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 14 and newer. This variant fully complies the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Universal Code Initiative.

If you compare this option (BC Online and Universal Code for On-Premises/Private Cloud) with the SQL-integrated option (C), a separate Anveo Delta Service is required as this cannot be integrated in SQL any more. This database holds a replicated copy of all required Microsoft Dynamics data for a synchronization.

The feature set towards the Anveo Mobile App user interface and app configuration is identical.

Please find more information of infrastructure variants in the “Anveo Mobile App System Requirements” page of the documentation.

Anveo EDI Connect

We offer different variants of Anveo EDI Connect, which differ only slightly in their functionality. So far, there is an on-premises variant of our app and a BC Online variant on AppSource.

The AppSource variant is already compatible with the “Microsoft Universal Code Initiative” respectively does not affect it.

The on-premises variant currently offers the ability to send or receive files directly from Dynamics via FTP, SFTP, FTPS and POP3 as well as SMTP via free optional components. It is also possible to store files locally or in network paths. We will continue to offer this variant as a legacy build for existing Dynamics customers, for example, but it will not be compatible with the Universal Code Initiative.

Therefore, there is a new on-premises variant of our solutionthat is compatible with the Universal Code Initiative. Sending and receiving files here will be possible either via our Managed File Transfer Service (MFT) in the Anveo Cloud, or alternatively via an optional free Windows service installed locally outside of Dynamics.
